I was introduced to the 4-22 Foundation by Doreen, a friend who is an ambassador for the organisation. She spoke highly of the Foundation’s work and explained how it can create access to placements at top law firms, opportunities that are incredibly hard to come by. After just a few emails with Gavin, we were already discussing a potential placement with Greenberg Traurig, and with his guidance and support throughout the process, I was delighted to be accepted onto a week-long placement in their London office.

Greenberg Traurig is a major international US law firm with a strong reputation in corporate law. During my placement, I was seated in the Banking and Finance team, where I gained exposure to a broad range of matters, including structured finance, asset finance, general lending, real estate finance, and insolvency and restructuring. The variety of work gave me valuable insight into how finance transactions are structured and the commercial considerations that underpin them.

One of the most interesting aspects of the placement was the opportunity to immerse myself in the team and work closely alongside the lawyers. In particular, I was able to sit in on a live negotiation spanning three jurisdictions, which gave me first-hand exposure to the complexities of cross-border transactions and the collaborative nature of international legal work.

Overall, the placement was incredibly useful and enjoyable. It gave me a realistic understanding of the day-to-day role of a commercial lawyer and how a large international law firm operates in practice. The experience has strengthened my commercial awareness and confirmed my interest in a career in corporate law. I am confident that what I learned during this placement will be invaluable when applying for training contracts and will help put me in a strong position to succeed in my future legal career.
